Resurfacing is our proprietary system that gently sands light scratches, scuffs, ground-in dirt and dullness away. It does NOT affect the color (other than brightening) and does NOT sand away precious wood. Our Akron resurfacing system is the most cost effective service we offer, with low starting prices. Most projects only take a few hours to finish, rather than a few days.
Refinishing means sanding your floors down to bare wood, re-staining (your choice of color) and applying polyurethane. If oil-based polyurethane is desired, we will apply 2 coats and lightly sand between coats. With water-based poly; 3 coats are used with light sanding between coats 1 and 2 and scuffing between coats 2 and 3. Of course we “tack” (clean the dust) prior to each coat. This is the most common method, as homeowners are most familiar with the 2-4 day process that leaves them with gleaming floors. With our low prices, it is one of the most affordable and cost effective options for hardwood floor refinishing.
We will guide you with pros and cons of each method. We don’t aim to sell you on a service you don’t want, but instead, we work with you to develop the perfect floor for your home. A deep scratch here and there may not be a bad thing. Some folks call it character, some turn it into a story, some simply don’t see the “value added” with the added expense of removing the deep scars. If you have pets or children, then removing ALL scratches may very well be a temporary thing. Maybe resurfacing is the right direction, or maybe all you need to do is to protect your long term investment. Give us a call and we’ll help you with this. We vow to never try to sell you on any service that you don’t need or want.
Cleaning the pet accidents when they are fresh is the key to maintaining your hardwood floors. If cleaning with the steps outlined below doesn’t fix the problem area, then the urine has probably soaked into your flooring and more serious restoration work will be required. We can handle most pet stains, but contact us to determine the severity of your case.
White Vinegar and water (1 part vinegar to 4 parts water). Prepare a spray bottle for the little, everyday accidents and a bucket for the bigger stains. Scrub stains until you are sure they are clean, then wipe it completely dry. Then, dry it again. DO NOT use anything containing ammonia because pet urine has ammonia and if you clean with the same stuff, your pets will think that’s the place to urinate.
This process creates very little dust; equipment mounted vacuums pull the majority of the dust, and what remains is a very light coating of dust on the floor. No airborne dust is generated. The remaining dust on the floor is vacuumed up, and then the surface is cleaned by our technicians with tack rags.
For resurfacing, we use only waterborne products that are “Greenguard” certified. The only smell is a very light, pleasant aroma.
The GREENGUARD Environmental Institute, part of UL Environment, has the mission of protecting human health and quality of life by improving indoor air quality and reducing chemical exposure. The GREENGUARD Certification Program helps manufacturers create – and helps buyers identify – interior products and materials that have low chemical emissions, improving the quality of the air in which the products are used.
